the story
the bon florals was founded on
the idea that flowers can help
make special moments memorable.
I've always loved flowers. They bring a romance and coziness to life that I’ve always felt was a bit magical.
Raised in the Mountains of Western Montana, my family spent a lot of time in nature. Childhood memories are laced with the delicate patch of moss or the brilliant red of an Indian Paintbrush that lined hiking trails. Over the past ten years of living in Australia, the joy and wonder of the incredible flora in the bush has become a reason to wander the country. Exploring somewhere new has been a new happy excuse to pull over along backroads to take a closer look at some wild plant or side-of-the-road flower stall. I've delighted in making flower arrangements for friends, marking dinner parties and celebrations with extra care.
It’s been a quiet love affair.
Then my Grandpa and best friend, Chester, found out that he was sick. He had always had a reputation as an amazing green thumb as long as I could remember, owning a farm in Texas and then a prolific garden at his house in California where I lived when I was born. So, because he was no longer able to go outside easily, I started looking for ways that I could bring a garden and nature to him.
The stars aligned and I found Tiegan at Twyllo Flower Farm who let me get my hands dirty working for her, all while reporting back the lessons and happenings from the farm each day to my Grandpa. We spent a lot of time in the last year of his life happily discussing plants and growing things. He started a little table top garden in his apartment with plants he said he didn’t want but then would methodically care for after I’d buy him for him when I visited.
At the same time, I was trying to figure out how I was going to spend more of my time
focused on nature, flowers, plants and connection with community.
This intention was the catalyst for creating The Bon.
The name The Bon Florals is a tribute to the diner ‘The Bon Ton Cafe’
where my Grandpa sent his summers in La Grange, Texas. According to his stories, it was a place where everyone enjoyed being, the food was simple but excellent, and where everyone was welcome.
Which became his way of being, throwing no-fuss raucous dinner parties
with an open door policy at his little house in Petaluma.
The aim of the The Bon is to honour this same spirt celebrating two things: nature and people.
Whether it’s a special dinner party with friends or your wedding,
The Bon is about bringing little bits of simple and thoughtful beauty
into the most important moments that we are lucky enough to share with our community.
So … welcome! I can’t wait to connect with each of you and hear your story.
