the story
The Bon Florals was founded
on the idea that flowers can help
make special moments memorable.
I've always loved flowers. They bring a romance and coziness to life that I’ve always been drawn to. As someone raised in the Mountains of Montana, my family spent a lot of time in nature. Childhood memories are laced with delicate patch of moss or the brilliant red of an Indian Paintbrush on hiking trails. Now that I live in Australia, the joy and magic of the incredible flora here has become a reason to wander the country. Pulling over on backroads on roadtrips to take a closer look at some strange flower or side-of-the-road flower stalls. I've delighted in making flower arrangements for friends, marking dinner parties and celebrations with extra care. It was a quiet love affair.
Then my Grandpa and best friend, Chester, found out that he was sick. He had always had a reputation as an amazing green thumb, owning a farm in Texas and then a prolific garden at his house in California where I lived when I was born. So, because he was no longer able to go outside easily, I started looking for ways that I could bring a garden and nature to him. Over the last year of his life, we spent time discussing plants and growing things. He started a little table top garden in his apartment with plants he said he didn’t want but I’d buy him anyway when I visited. At the same time, I found Tiegan at Twyllo Flower Farm and got my hands dirty working for her while experimenting (with my Grandpa’s guidance) and learning how to grow flowers and plants myself.
Meanwhile, I was trying to figure out how I was going to spend more of my time with nature, flowers, plants like I had grown to love. I finally told my Grandpa that I was going to start an adventure that had something to do with flowers. Seeing him happy, excited and proud about the decision
was the catalyst for creating The Bon.
The name The Bon Florals is a tribute to my Grandpa’s favourite childhood diner - ‘The Bon Ton Cafe’ - in La Grange, Texas. According to his stories, it was a place where everyone went, the food was simple but excellent, and where everyone was welcome. This way something he continued for the rest of his life, eventually throwing rukus dinner parties with an open door policy at his little house in Petaluma.
The aim of the The Bon is to bring together this spirt and celebrate two things: nature and people. Whether it’s a special dinner party with friends or your wedding, The Bon is about bringing little bits of simple and thoughtful beauty into the most important moments that we are lucky enough to share with people.
So … welcome! I can’t wait to connect with each of you to hear your story.
